Toku Time: Top 10 Metal Hero Series of All Time

9 comments:

  1. I rather enjoyed VR Troopers, but I do agree that Beetleborgs suffered from a lot, even if they did target a way younger audience than the source material. (Although it should be noted that they were still suffering from the "fallout" of kids being hurt while playing Power Ranger. Oddly, that never affected Power Rangers. Never understood that argument.)

I would like to see more Metal Hero reviews as a fan of armored heroes. Sadly, the genre is no longer active, although I would make the claim that many of the Heisei Kamen Riders had Metal Hero elements in their armor design until W.

  2. Great to see something outside of KR or SS on here. Although, I have to ask, clearly you havent watched these shows as you couldnt even find clips of some, so how exactly did you rate them?
Also its rumoured there is a new Metal Hero series in the pipeline, so fingers crossed.
Now if you only review some non-Japanese Toku, something like Armor Hero perhaps? With the new series just starting it would be cool to introduce people to Toku outside of Japan.

  3. I gotta say EZ I am very confused by this list. Were you doing a "Top Metal Hero Openings"? As someone else stated it seems you didn't even watch them. If you did then you certainly didn't show it. You barely give your opinion on the openings, let alone the shows. The whole point of making a top ten list is to rank something in terms of something, in this case quality.

Could at least give us some reason as to why you put them in that order or why we should even watch them? Aside from the openings?

  4. All right. If you really must know. Originally this was going to be a Top 10 theme songs but since most of them are done by the same guy (Akira Kushida) I decided to change it at the very last second.

So I guess you could count this as an openings instead of series. I was in a hurry to start on Moonrise. So I'm sorry if this title mislead you but that's what happened.

Hopefully it won't happen again. Later.

  5. You did mention it in the beginning of the video. I did find it kind of odd in some of the openings when you expressed having no idea what happened in the series, but it was honest.

  6. You could have used Momotarosrawrevolution for the footage you wanted. Maybe next time

  7. Actually EZ. Robocop was inspired by this guy: http://youtu.be/ps-js1cOcD8 8-man (who preceded Ishinomori's Cyborg 009 by a year) has the same basic premise. A cop gets shot and is almost dying. But a scientist saves him by making him a super fast cyborg who ironically gets power boosts by smoking special cigar shaped batteries....

  8. Just a question, EZ: did you actually hate Beetleborgs and VR Troopers when it first aired? Or did you like them at first, but started to hate them as time went on?

  9. @Truidiot

Actually no. Like any young one back then I just watched with the same joy and amusement I found in Power Rangers since well, I was too excited/hopped up on sugar to care.

Then I grew up and I looked back and thought "What was I thinking?" So no, I didn't hate them when I was a kid. But now I tend to roll my eyes at them more.
